It’s officially Grammy season!!! Earlier today, the Recording Academy officially released the nominations for the upcoming 67th Grammys on February 5th. Here’s everything you need to know.
Queen Bey continues to make history
With a record 11 nominations off the back of her latest album Cowboy Carter, Beyoncé continues to dominate and extend her lead as the most nominated artist, jumping up to 99 total nominations and 32 wins. To say that she’ll go 0/11 isn’t extremely far-fetched, but it’s just wrong. She’s the queen for a reason.
Carpenter vs. Roan?
2024 could easily be considered a renaissance of pop music given the number of hits we’ve had. Leading that charge are Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan. With each of them being nominated in the big 4 categories and having 6 nominations each, a generational battle is expected to go down in February. Whoever takes home the most awards aside, this duo is legendary not only for pop music but music history as a whole.
Grande snubbed?
One of the best pop albums of the year was Ariana Grande’s Eternal Sunshine. Filled with hits and a very well-rounded piece of work, the record was poised to be up there with some of the most nominated records. While she didn’t get completely snubbed, she went 0/3 in the biggest categories she was eligible for. Not to mention “We Can’t Be Friends” wasn’t nominated for Music Video of the Year. Shocking to say the least.
Kendrick earns 7 nods
Despite not releasing an album, Kendrick has gone on one of the best runs in music and rap in 2024. All of this, solely because of his feud with Drake. The concluding song of the beef, “Not Like Us,” earned him nominations in Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Music Video. His collab with Future and Metro Boomin on Like That earned him nominations in Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song.
Billie makes history again
With these nominations being released, history is made yet again. In addition to earning 7 total nominations, 5 from her latest album Hit Me Hard and Soft, she becomes the youngest artist ever to earn 5 nominations for Record of the Year. Starting in 2020 with “Bad Guy,” moving on to 2021 with “Everything I Wanted,” in 2022 with “Happier Than Ever,” “What Was I Made For?” in 2024, and now “Birds of a Feather” in 2025.
Welcome back, Charli XCX
It’s very early, but I am willing to say that Brat is Charli XCX’s magnum opus project. Yes, she’s had hits in the past, but not only has this project tripled her overall Grammy nomination count, it’s propelled her to unparalleled stardom. Brat has officially earned her 7 nominations, including 2 of the big 4 categories and over the course of 4 different songs (Apple, 360, Guess, Von Dutch).
Post Malone has a big year
When you think of big names within the rap community in the 21st century, Post Malone has to be there. But this year, he dabbled into a completely new genre. With the release of F-1 Trillion, a massive milestone was set as the album charted 18 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 and debuted atop the Billboard 200. In addition to his massive success in the country sphere, he collaborated with Taylor Swift on “Fortnight,” which already took home 3 VMAs and is slated to at least take home 1 win at the Grammys.
Shaboozey caps off a breakout 2024
As much as it’s hard to admit, Shaboozey has had a solid 2024. “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” has reigned atop the Billboard Hot 100 at #1 for 16 weeks (and counting), and his album Where I’ve Been Is Not Where I’m Going peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200 charts. ABS got 4 nominations, including a nod for Best Country Song and Song of the Year. Shaboozey himself will walk away with 6 nominations, including one for Best New Artist and Best Melodic Rap Performance with Beyoncé.
